TRACKING & SCENT DETECTION Dog Tracking Classes in Peabody, Beverly & Salem MA Area

Dogs have a powerful sense of smell and love to use their noses. Tracking is a 100% motivational dog training activity. It is a fun training exercise for owners and allows dogs to take advantage of their natural instincts while encouraging their innate abilities through various scent-oriented games. Not only can you earn titles in various dog tracking sports, but it’s enjoyable to have a friend lay a track, and then amaze them by having your dog show you exactly where they went!

Teaching a dog to follow human odor on surfaces such as asphalt or cement may be harder than starting on grass, but the transition to other surfaces is much easier as there are less distraction odors like crushed vegetation or bugs in the beginning. Through dog training, your dog will learn to distinguish not only human odor from distraction odors, but also one specific human odor from other human odors. It’s tons of fun for your dog and will only strengthen your bond with one another. Some dogs will progress faster than others, but if your dog likes treats and has a nose, we can teach him or her to track! Working puppies and or dogs with a high food drive or toy drive are always eager to work with their dog trainer or handler and to learn. A tracking class can be an exciting way to progress from puppy classes if your dog is eager to continue learning beyond basic dog obedience exercises.

Dog tracking classes are offered at our Peabody MA location, where we serve clients from the North Shore of Massachusetts, including Beverly, Peabody, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn and Danvers, MA.

Training Overview

We understand each dog is an individual and learns at a different pace. A rigorous schedule of daily interaction facilitates your dog’s motivation and learning process. When combined with our professional dog trainers’ ability to instill the principles of dog obedience through precision timing and consistency each day, your desired learning objectives are imparted in your dog at an accelerated rate.
Each dog begins by learning (either from “scratch” or as a thorough review) foundational behavior principles. Then, through repetitions in different high-distraction environments, your dog builds the ability to generalize dog training concepts. The end result is that your dog is obedient, attentive to you, and well-behaved during any activity, in any environment—at home or in public.
BootCamp training is custom tailored to your specific needs. The result is that you gain the ability to maintain control of your dog in your everyday environment under the most distracting circumstances. Of course, the longer period of time that your dog participates in our program, learning from a professional dog trainer, the more time positive behaviors are reinforced in high-distraction situations, the more solidified his or her obedience will be. And the stronger the dog training foundation, the easier it is for you to maintain the desired performance in the long run.
Whether you desire “loose-leash” walking, better manners, increased socialization, advanced “off-leash” walking and obedience, or want to address specific behavioral issues such as dog aggression, separation anxiety or excessive barking, our experienced professional dog trainers work with you and your dog to reach your goals. One of the factors that sets our BootCamp programs apart from other board and train in MA programs is that they take place at our facility where 30+ other dogs from North Shore of Massachusetts, including Beverly, Peabody, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn and Danvers, MA come to attend Canine Camp. Your dog will participate in our supervised play groups, which plays a pivotal role in creating opportunities for socialization and exercise. Your dog will be consistently trained and tested under real-life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios so that he or she knows how to behave and can be controlled in any stimulating environment, with distractions.
BootCamp programs at Loyal Canines aren’t just for adult dogs! Many young dogs and even puppies also attend our BootCamp programs as a substitute for traditional puppy classes in MA to establish a solid foundation of basic obedience that sets them up for future success. This is especially true for puppies whose families desire a well-behaved dog that can accompany them during off-leash activities such as hiking, bike riding, camping and more!
Loyal Canines Academy is under the direction of Jermaine Anderson, Proprietor/Training Director, Professional Dog Trainer, IACP, APDT, and AKC Certified Evaluator. Mastering Dog Training Commands –Your Role as an Owner-Handler

Your dog’s success as a social and well-behaved member of society and your family is dependent upon you! Investing in his or her education is important because, without your knowledge of how your dog communicates and why he or she behaves the way it does, behavior can quickly escalate into an uncontrollable problem. Once you enroll your dog in one of our BootCamp programs, it’s incredibly important to understand the commands your dog has learned so that you will possess the ability to communicate with your dog. If you live nearby, weekly meetings are scheduled for you to come to our campus to meet with your dog’s trainer. Under the trainer’s guidance, you will handle your dog for one hour each week, using the commands our dog trainer has taught your dog and getting a feel for all he or she is learning.
The purpose of these meetings is to teach you “handler skills” pivotal to your ability to maintain the behaviors your dog is mastering. With this knowledge, you will be able to motivate and control your dog after BootCamp is complete. For this reason, we expect you to commit to this process. If you are unable to meet with your dog’s trainer weekly, you are encouraged to arrange a time for a comprehensive lesson and review of what your dog has learned upon completion of the course when you come to reunite with your dog.

Programs

3-4 week obedience program

This dynamic program is designed for those who want their dogs to be “rock stars” of the dog world! Your dog will stay with us for either 3 or 4 weeks and will be trained daily by our professional dog trainers working on all basic and advanced off-leash behaviors and commands. At its conclusion, you will be able to communicate and be successful with your dog in any environment and have 100% confidence that your dog will always come to you when called off-leash. There will be weekly meetings scheduled when you will visit our facility to meet with our trainers so that we can teach you the necessary handling skills that are pivotal in creating the proper communication system between you and your dog. You will handle your dog during a one-hour lesson each week while your dog stays with us so that we can teach you how to motivate and control all of the positive behaviors that your dog has learned.
Our trainers will perform all of the foundation work for you with precision timing and consistency, which will result in your dog learning at an accelerated pace, faster than he or she will in any other program. Unlike in a traditional obedience class, or even at an average board and train in MA, this 3-4-week intensive obedience training program is designed to put the necessary foundation in place so that your dog can generalize all obedience commands in any environment, both on-leash and off-leash.

At the conclusion of the program, you will be able to walk with your dog off-leash, regardless of distractions, and be able to recall your dog in any environment. Your dog will always be able to understand what behaviors are expected of him or her. All distractions are provided at our facilities in Beverly, MA and Peabody MA, and we gradually add higher stimulating distractions daily. All behaviors are proofed and consistently tested under real life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios so that the dog knows how to behave and can be controlled in any stimulating environment with distractions. (Your dogs’ temperament and goals will determine the length of time)

3-4 Week Bootcamp Curriculum:

  • “Sit and “Extended Sit”
  • “Down and “Extended Down”
  • “Heel”
  • “Loose leash walking” (Your dog will walk beside you on a loose leash and will adjust to your pace, speed and change of directions with you without any tension on the leash.)
  • “Drop it” or “Leave it” (drop anything that is in their mouth)
  • “Come when called” (Your dog will stop what they are doing and immediately come when called.)
  • “Place” (go to a place, or go to their dog bed, stay and do not move until released from that position).

Advanced off-leash obedience control:

Your dog will learn how to walk with you off-leash, come into a “heel” position off-leash, change speeds, adjust to your pace, and change directions off-leash, while always being under your control.

2 WEEK OBEDIENCE PROGRAM

Obedience is key for your dog to be a functioning member of society and this is an intensive training program to ensure his or her success! Your dog stays with us for 2 weeks and is trained to achieve your desired goals both in your home and in public. We teach obedience commands including: “Sit”, “Down”, “Stay”, “Come” when called, and walking on leash in a “Heel” position. This program is also the foundation training to get your dog to the point of Off-Leash walking. At the conclusion of two-weeks, our trainers will train you how to maintain and reinforce solid obedience behaviors going forward.

Dog trainers perform the bulk of the discipline and problem solving in your absence to permit accomplishment of goals at a more accelerated pace than any other board and train program.
Dogs in the Nuts and Bolts program remain at the Academy for its duration, lodging off-campus, but participate in their training and socializing activities during the day at the Academy facility, where there are over 30+ dogs daily from across the North Shore of Massachusetts, including Beverly, Peabody, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn and Danvers, MA.

Behavior Modification Bootcamp for Specific Issues
- 3 Week Course

Whether your dog has aggression toward other dogs or people, or has high anxiety or fear, this program is specifically designed to modify its behavior so that it can overcome those issues and you can properly and successfully manage your dog’s obedience going forward both at home and in public. Our Behavior Modification Bootcamp is unlike any other board and train option available as it takes place at our Beverly MA or Peabody MA locations where 30+ dogs, of all ages and varying temperaments, attend our popular Daycamp program daily, and we employ a large staff. Dogs acquire extensive environmental exposure to situations that may trigger their behavior, thus allowing us to address and correct it.
Behavior Modification is a custom-developed course that addresses your dog’s identified problem behaviors—and then introduces the changes required to disestablish the type and level of “the issue’” such as—aggression (over food, dogs, humans, etc.), anxiety and/or fear (of noise, surfaces, being touched, etc.) that your dog experiences when “confronted.” The goal is to terminate the undesirable behavior. Reaching that goal is accomplished through the Dog Trainer’s Plan of targeted exercises and positive experiences, which is administered by an understanding and compassionate dog trainer. Confidence-building exercises, obedience training, and manners are simultaneously incorporated to enhance your dog’s ability to reach its full potential.
Behavior Modification is conducted by an experienced dog trainer works with your dog daily, one-on-one and oversees your dog’s participation in the supervised play groups, and with other dogs individually. These activities are important to socializing and exercising your dog. They serve to test performance under real-life dog-to-dog and dog-to-people scenarios so that your dog learns to behave and can be controlled in any environment, with distractions.
Owner/Handler participation for your dog’s Behavior Modification issues is highly recommended. It is critically important for you to learn how to motivate and control all of your dog’s positive behaviors. Your dog’s trainer will coach you on the way to better manage your dog based upon the initial problem behavior and the methods introduced to correct the issue and continually manage it in the long-term during weekly meetings while your dog is at the facility. And during the meetings, your dog’s trainer provides you with a complete review of what your dog has learned that week so that you will have a better understanding of the rate of progress and expectations for being successful when your dog returns to your daily life. Meeting with your trainer is by scheduled appointment at the Academy and if needed can be arranged as a video by appointment if you live outside of the North Shore of Massachusetts, including Beverly, Peabody, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn and Danvers, MA.

3-4 Week Behavior Modification Program

This program is geared towards those dogs with the highest level of aggression, anxiety or fear. Your dog will spend the entire day with our dog trainers at our Beverly MA or Peabody MA locations, he or she will be under constant training and supervision and will receive undivided attention from the trainer as they work towards solving the identified problem behaviors. Whether it is aggression towards other dogs, people, high anxiety or fear, this program is specifically designed to help your dog overcome issues and achieve your desired results so you can manage your dog’s behavior successfully in your home and in public. We will incorporate obedience training and confidence building exercises to help your dog reach his or her full potential! Because your dog is trained consistently by our professional trainers on a daily basis, this will result in your dog learning at an accelerated pace, much faster than he or she can in any other type of dog training program. Each day we will be working with your dog one-on-one.
One of the factors that sets our Boot Camp programs apart from other board and train in MA programs is that they take place at our facility where 30+ other dogs from North Shore of Massachusetts, including Beverly, Peabody, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn and Danvers, MA come to attend Canine Camp.
We set up weekly appointments with the primary handlers/owners so that we can begin teaching you how to motivate and control all of the positive behaviors that we are instilling in your dog through obedience training. These meetings are critical, because not only will we be teaching you what your dog has learned, we are also coaching you on how to better manage your dog based on his or her temperament and training progress. During the weekly meetings you will receive a complete review of what your dog has learned and you will have a better understanding of how to be successful with your dog in your environment. We also post photos and weekly updates documenting your dog’s progress on our social media pages (Facebook and Instagram).
